On the occasion of the Bicentenary of Photography, SIT DOWN gallery invites artist Jean-Gabriel Lopez to engage in an unprecedented dialogue with the pioneering work of Arthur Batut (1846–1918), an emblematic figure in photographic experimentation at the end of the 19th century.
Drawing on Arthur Batut’s work, Jean-Gabriel Lopez has developed a body of work that explores the making of images, their materiality, and the enduring relevance of photographic experiments.
Presented alongside original works by Arthur Batut, these works establish a dialogue between two photographic practices separated by more than a century. The exhibition does not seek to erase this distance. On the contrary, it reveals how certain photographic experiments remain, today, tools for artistic creation.
In partnership with the Musée Arthur Batut.
Exhibition awarded the Bicentenary of Photography (1826–2026) label.
